Russian "elections" in the occupied parts of Ukraine: UN Security Council to hold a meeting

The UN Security Council will meet today to discuss Russia's illegitimate attempt to hold so-called presidential elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ukrainian representative to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsya, on the social network X.

The Security Council will meet at 21:05 Kyiv time at the initiative of Ukraine.

Ukraine's letter requesting the meeting cited two articles of the UN Charter:

- Article 34, which allows the Council to "investigate any dispute or any situation which may lead to international disputes or give rise to a dispute",

- Article 35, which allows any member state to bring to the attention of the Council "any dispute or any situation referred to in Article 34".

The meeting will be chaired by UN Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo.
