Polish Deputy Prime Minister Kaczynski resigned from his post

The head of Poland's Law and Justice party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, has resigned from his position as deputy prime minister.

He told this in an interview with PAP.

"Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and, as far as I know, President Andrzej Duda accepted my resignation," Jarosław Kaczyński said.

He said he now wants to concentrate on his work in the party so that it will not only win the next election, but stay in power.

"It's not that I overestimate my role, it's just that the party has to regain its vigor, because the time is approaching, which is the most important for every political party in the world. The goal of elections is to get a good result, and when it comes to the PiS, the goal is to win them and the possibility of power, of course, in the coalition of the United Right," the PiS head said.

Kaczynski added that his successor in the role of deputy prime minister will be the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Blaszczak. The Security Committee will be headed by Zbigniew Hoffman, deputy chairman of the prime minister's office, instead of Kaczynski.

Kaczynski said he would leave the government as early as last year. Then he stressed that this decision was dictated by the need to strengthen control over the party.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zielenski awarded Jaroslaw Kaczynski and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, II degree "for a significant personal contribution to strengthening Ukrainian-Polish interstate cooperation, supporting the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine".
