An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 occurred in Romania on Thursday morning - it is the largest earthquake in the country in the last two years.

This is reported by the Digi24 portal.

The earthquake occurred at 6:50 a.m. at a depth of 140 km and was registered near the following cities: 57 km east of Brasov, 75 km north of Ploiesti, 117 km southwest of Bacau, 130 km north of Bucharest.

Tremors were strongly felt in the capital of Romania, Bucharest.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania said that firefighters are checking areas of the city that are vulnerable to earthquakes, especially in the historic center. So far no damage has been detected.

"From the very beginning, when the earthquake was felt, colleagues from the fire service joined the work. Vulnerable areas are being checked, a team from the Bucharest Fire Service has started to operate to check the Old Center. There were no calls to 112, as far as I know, no consequences registered," said Raed Arafat, head of the Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania.

As the "Dumska" publication reports, some residents of Odesa felt the echoes of the earthquake that occurred on the morning of November 3 in Romania.

According to the townspeople, the inhabitants of the Malinovsky district felt them the most. Some say that the chandeliers jingled in the apartments and the furniture shook.

For the Zranku seismic zone, an earthquake is a normal phenomenon, once every few years shocks with a magnitude in the range from 5 to 6 are recorded here.

There are usually no aftershocks after such earthquakes. Romanian seismologists claim that the destruction is capable of causing an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 and higher.
