US Congress prepares to collect signatures to consider aid to Ukraine

The US Congress may start collecting signatures this week to consider a bill on financing aid to Ukraine and other countries bypassing Speaker Mike Johnson. This was reported by Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, quoted by Voice of America.

"This is a pressure point, an attempt to apply pressure to force something to the floor for a vote," he said.

The congressman emphasized the importance of passing the bill, as the alternative could be a negative impact on Ukraine and the opening of the US borders.

Fitzpatrick also noted that if Johnson does not agree, the congressmen will start collecting signatures for a petition to bring the bill to a vote directly in the House of Representatives.

He is confident that the necessary 218 votes to support the petition will be collected.
