Ukraine can mobilize 10-20 thousand prisoners under new law - Minister of Justice

Ukraine is capable of recruiting 10-20 thousand prisoners and people with criminal records to the Armed Forces, but it depends on the specific scenario. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Justice Denys Malyuska in an interview with BBC-Ukraine.

“The issue is in the approaches. I say that the numbers are not calculated at all, because depending on each scenario, the number will be different,” Malyuska said.

He added that a lot will depend on military medical commissions.

Journalists compared the new Ukrainian law to the mobilization of prisoners in Russia.

“I would be blind if I did not see the parallel. Of course, there is a parallel. We shouldn't deceive ourselves, but we are still talking about a difference in approaches. For them it was a forced mobilization, they forced everyone to go, they did not train anyone, without training it was just “meat,” Malyuska said.
